What is eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) improves the appearance of your upper and/or lower eyelids. It restores a natural, rested, more youthful appearance when age causes the eyelids to droop.

Eyelid surgery gives you more self-confidence. It’s also easy to combine with Botox® and fillers or other cosmetic surgeries like facelifts and rhinoplasty (nose job).

Dr. Jaiswal performs eyelid surgery on an outpatient basis so that you can rest comfortably at home after the procedure.

What problems can I fix with eyelid surgery?

Dr. Jaiswal offers several kinds of eyelid surgery, including:

Upper blepharoplasty

An upper eyelid blepharoplasty is ideal for drooping tissue above your eye. You might develop sagging over the eyelid’s crease, making you look older and your eyelids feel heavy. Upper blepharoplasty can also treat mechanical ptosis, where your eyelids droop so far with the weight of excess skin and fat that it interferes with your vision.

Lower blepharoplasty

Lower blepharoplasty corrects lower eyelid bags, tightens the lid, and improves the area where your lower eyelid meets your cheek. It’s typically more complex than upper eyelid surgery and may involve addressing issues like prolapsed fat and overstretched eyelid muscle and skin.

Dr. Jaiswal also performs Asian or double eyelid surgery. Asian eyelid anatomy lacks the crease found in other races. If you wish to change your eyelids, Dr. Jaiswal can create a pretarsal crease in your upper eyelid for a more awake look while maintaining your Asian appearance. Or he can use different techniques to produce a more Western-looking eyelid.

What happens when I have eyelid surgery?

When you arrive for eyelid surgery, Dr. Jaiswal meets with you to review the plan and make any markings required as surgical guides. He specializes in using sedation and local anesthetic to avoid the risks of having general anesthesia.

Dr. Jaiswal makes incisions in the eyelids and removes excess tissue. He may also need to remove or reposition fat before suturing the incisions. Eyelid surgery could take between 20 minutes and two hours, depending on the work done.

Recovery can take up to two weeks. Pain is typically minimal with eyelid surgery, but there’ll be swelling and bruising. You should look better every day and see the final results in 3-6 months.
